CBD E-Commerce Sales Increase During COVID-19 Pandemic
It has been found by, Brightfield Group, a data analytics company, that CBD e-commerce sales have increased during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the data from Brightfield Group, online sales for CBD have risen amongst the biggest CBD companies, showing that consumers are using more CBD during the pandemic.
Bethany Gomez, the Managing Director at Brightfield Group, wrote, “Our latest consumer research shows that we can expect higher use, specifically amongst heavier users which is a positive indication of how the market will be going in coming weeks and months.”
It is found by the company that 39% of the users were expecting to use more CBD during this pandemic.
The usage of CBD was most probably to increase by the Gen Z and Millennials consumers with 49% were expecting to use the CBD more.
Brightfield Group also expects a rise in CBD e-commerce trade because of an anticipated increase in depression, anxiety, and insomnia—three of the top four conditions customers consuming CBD for.
Gomez says that a popular topic about CBD and novel coronavirus which came across in social media posts was self-care.
Gomez wrote that CBD self-care products are boosting in this quarantined time as people are returning to self-care luxuries to keep themselves alive or to pass the time.
Study: CBD Enhances the Efficacy Of Antibiotics
It is found in a study from the University of Southern Denmark that the addition of CBD to antibiotics enhances their effectiveness against bacteria.
CBD was added to the antibiotic bacitracin against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria that cause bone infections, heart valve infections, pneumonia, and skin infections
The two combined compounds were more potent than the antibiotic alone.
The study states that the amalgam of bacitracin and CBD is found to be effective against Gram-positive bacteria.
Particularly, the combination actually inhibited the division of the bacteria, hence destabilization of the bacterial membrane, contributing to its destruction.
It is a strategy to find an auxiliary compound for antibiotics for combating increasingly antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
Overuse of antibiotics is the primary cause of antibiotic resistance according to the researchers of this study.
The researcher said that when antibiotic is combined with an auxiliary compound, there would be less need of antibiotic for the inhibition of bacterial growth or destruction as compared to using antibiotic alone. This technique might decrease the chances of development of resistance. Thus it was important to do an investigation to identify the auxiliary compounds.
It was also highlighted by the researchers that “CBD is a quite effectual antimicrobial compound” not only against Staphylococcus aureus but also against other gram-positive bacteria.
A similar study was conducted by the University of Queensland’s Institute for Molecular Bioscience’s Centre for Superbug Solutions in Brisbane, Australia, in which CBD alone was tested against many gram-positive bacteria.
The researchers found CBD to be “exceptionally effective” against some of the bacteria but advised to do more study.
