CBD News Summary: Test Can Differentiate The CBD and THC

The latest CBD news is here:

  • The South Dakota’s Governor has said she would not overrule the hemp legalization again.
  • Fresh Thyme Farmers Market is introducing more CBD products to its products’ list.

Startup Develops Test To Differentiate CBD And THC

A project in a northern suburb of Dallas may have a law enforcement approach that helps to determine whether someone has used THC or CBD.

InspectIR Systems, a startup in Frisco, Texas, has developed a breathalyzer test which differentiates the CBD and THC.

There is no quick way for the police officers to quickly test whether someone had used marijuana or CBD as CBD is getting popular and marijuana is getting legal in several states across the country.

Additionally, if hospitals are involved, it can be vital for them to know the substances a person has used.

John Redmond with InspectIR Systems said, “This is a widespread issue that isn’t unique to Texas.”

For two years, InspectIR Systems has collaborated with the University of North Texas to develop their portable device.

According to Redmond, the device would take only 90 seconds to determine the amount of THC in a person’s system.

Furthermore, the test will protect those taking CBD for being disciplined for consuming marijuana and impaired driving.

Moreover, this test is significant for hospitals to know the substances a person has consumed.

Redmond said, “So if you’re consuming CBD that you’ve bought at one of the hundreds of stores that have started up, but get arrested for intoxicated driving, and you are accused of consuming THC after drug test; however, you had never used marijuana, that’s an issue.”

Rehmond wanted to empower law enforcement by using mobile portable test and healthcare provider to test the THC in someone’s system.

Redmond intends to begin selling the devices to law enforcement sometime in 2020.

South Dakota Is Expected To Legalize Hemp In 2020

Kristi Noem, Governor of South Dakota, has given hope to hemp advocates in The Mount Rushmore State.

This week, Governor Noem said that she would not use her veto to prevent the legalization of hemp, provided the bill remains within her planned “guardrails.”

Noem said to KELOLAND News,“I just wanted to give up with the Legislature. I still don’t consider it a good idea for South Dakota, but I realize they are looking for a solution.”

Some of the guardrails include:

  • People transporting hemp should have permits in their vehicles.
  • Smokable hemp should not be allowed.
  • Regulations should be self-funding through fees.
  • The Department of Agriculture supervising licensing and regulations and the Department of Public Safety conducting monitoring.

House Republican leader Lee Qualm said that he agreed to guardrails, and he was just happy Governor was ready to take a look at their efforts.

The 2020 bill is identical to its 2019 predecessor, but it also requires the hemp to be processed in CBD oil.

South Dakota will be 48th state to legalize the hemp cultivation and CBD oil if the state does so.

The other states currently restricting hemp include Mississippi and Idaho.

Recently, the USDA has approved the hemp plan of Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe, and other tribes are looking for permission to cultivate hemp on their land within South Dakota as well.
